Workplaces go through a fair amount of printer and toner cartridges, but aren’t always quite sure how to deal with them once they’re empty. As we move towards a world of corporate sustainability, knowing how to handle used cartridges is important. You may be surprised to learn that ink cartridges are eco-friendly, if handled properly.
While more and more companies have moved online, printed materials are still very much in use. And when printer and toner cartridges run dry, it’s important they’re recycled properly. Currently, over 375 million empty printer and toner cartridges wind up in either incinerators or landfills. Meanwhile, about 97% of the materials that make those cartridges can be reused or recycled!
When your ink cartridge runs out, don’t simply toss it in the trash. There are other options to make sure your cartridges don’t contribute to the carbon footprint. You can choose whichever one works best for your workspace, or (what we suggest!) use a combination.
Once you’re in the habit of reducing, returning, and recycling ink cartridges, tell your community about it. Spreading awareness about these sustainable options will help reduce the amount of cartridges getting thrown needlessly into the trash. When we all do our part, we can make big changes!
